Margie, I have been reading through this, and god bless that there are people out there that care.. it sounds like that you would do a better job of finding Amos if you were taking control of the search yourself with all the people that want to help, obviously the law enforcement is not helping and seem to be making things harder on you! I am so sorry that things are so rough on you right now.. My sister Kerry (who has wrote to you) is very concerned as I am, we want to help you!
We will find him, and bring him home safe...
Bless you, Cindy

I live very close to where your son lives. I am also a parent of 3. Please call if your going to have an organized search, or if I can do anything at all to help.
I have been following this story very close and have called the police dept. 3 times wondering if a search is going to be done. you really should contact an attorney to put a bite into Bates and his ineffective investigation. Call 835-2159 when you get a search going.

I've just learned a valuable lesson. Don't trust the local "traditional" print press. Now, you are thinking...duh; however, she came across as a person that cared about Amos and "just" wanted to tell people what a great person he is, plus I was told that publicity for Amos would be good. Now I'm wondering what that means, good for whom? Well, she twisted words, meanings, tone, and truths...and I'll leave it at that, except to say...never again. No one hurting from Amos' disappearnce alone needs to have extra hurt thrown in by the press.

Hi Kerry,

The packet for American's Most Wanted went out today. I have had it ready and sitting in my car since Monday, but I thought that maybe...this would be the week that Amos would come home.

Everyone who wants to help this family should call the Fitchburg Police department and complain to Chief Deputy Bates. IF it is true they don't have the "resources" for this case, they need to ask surrounding depts. to help-like Madison. AND, another way to help would be to call Madison Newspapers or any media outlet and suggest that a story/feature be done on this case--how the Fitchburg police dept. is not cooperating with the family and how help is needed.

My thoughts are prayers are with Amos and his family.

Hello Margie, Thank you so much for taking the time to respond to my email.. I am glad that you received it. I am so sorry to hear that things have been so hard for you. I don't understand the press, law enforcement, you are his mother and are in need of answers. Is there something that I can do to help? I have been unemployed since September and have been following this religiously, because it is so close to my home and I really just feel for you! Something has told me to offer as much help as I can, and I am here for you!
Please if there is anything I can do to help, please feel free to call.. 835-8846.
My blessings and prayers are with you.

Amos, wherever you are, I hope to see you this summer when I come home to visit...and we can drink a beer at Big Falls with all the old Eau Claire crew.

A friend sent me this information about your disappearance. I am heartfelt that so many people are trying to help. When you read these messages, you will be proud of your family, friends and strangers that care so much about you. Thank you to everyone that is helping out!

In reply to Cindy's posting:

Hi Cindy,

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers and volunteering to help. I am angry with Chief Deputy Bates. He controls the whole show. He has not told me "one" bit of information regarding the tips or leads...nothing. It is unheard of keeping the family in the complete dark for over a month. If I could fire him from this investigation...I absolutely would.

As far as volunteering goes. Yes, Jay Wilson told me that a lot of regular everyday people were calling the police station to volunteer for the search, though almost all the everyday regular people searching were Amos & my friends, not volunteers and the reason is, I believe due to what you stated in your entry. That the Fitchburg police never called any of you back to tell you come on down. We could have used volunteers outside our regular group so I don't know why Fitchburg police didn't call any of you. That is something that the press should call them on. The press should also press them on why the mother (me) has not been given any info. Even tips and leads that I have supplied them with (which have been many)..even those which would not be a secret to me they do not let me know if they ended up with a dead end on them or if it lead to something else.

I think what I would like most right now is for the press and everyday people to push Chief Bates. At the end of one of my usual "going nowhere fast" meetings with Chief Deputy Bates I said this, "Ok, can you at least tell me this simple thing?" Then I asked him a very vague simple question and his reply to me was "no comment."

Yes, that is what I am dealing with as a parent of a missing adult child.

Thank you so much for posting to Amos' guest book, I so appreciate your concern.

I too have followed this from the beginning. My families thoughts are with all of you..I think about this a lot. The entire thing is to strange not to!

This town is to small not to find answers! I have put out fliers. At one establishment, the Manager was very assuring that if he hears anything, Fitchburg PD would get a call.He wishes the family good luck.

My efforts in what ever capacity, will continue until this is resolved.I have much empathy for all of you missing your Son,Brother,Friend. My kid sister is about the same age..

I think it may be beneficial if someone put something together, basic facts and information about the case and air it on the government channel or local public access....through out Dane County.
Also, at the time of his disappearance did he have a beard or not? The differences in the two pictures is significant like night and day.

Would also like to see a spokesperson appointed for this family..This needs to stay fresh in the public eye..Some small, trivial information, which may seem insignificant to someone, will solve this case.
Take care
Sincerely
Dave Farwell

I have followed this story from the beginning, and I also have called Fitchburg Police Dept. to help in the search for Amos. I was never called to help. I don't live far from where Amos's residence is and I think about it all the time. I have a young daughter and I couldn't imagine what I would do if I lost her somehow. I am here to help and we are praying for him everyday to be at home safe and with his family. I also would like to point out that we need more updates on this.. I look everyday in the paper or the news and never hear anything. They need help.. make it known!
God Bless you and your family.

In reading the messages I see that the media is willing to give this story more coverage. If there is any way that you can contact this reporter, please do! Getting the faces of missing people in the public eye is soooooo very important!!

I will keep Amos in my prayers.

My thoughts and prayers are with you. This disapearance is so out of the ordinary. And comparing it to the Audrey Seiler case is repulsive. This is serious. What makes me ill is the fact that the Audrey Seiler case got so much coverage by the press and I have only heard bits and pieces about Amos every couple of days. We need to keep people informed on this one. We need to come together as a community and family and take care of this. Like Derk said "somebody somewhere knows something" lets find that somebody!! Post those flyers and keep talking!! We need to find him..

I'm a reporter at the Wisconsin State Journal. I wish I had more coverage of Amos' disappearance. But, despite my best efforts, his family and friends have not returned my messages for interviews. I'm resorting to posting online to request that anyone who knows Amos call me so I can do a bigger story on his disappearance. Particularly his family. I was at the scene the day the police were searching the fields and left my card with everyone I could find, but no one called me back. My phone number is 608-252-6143. Please call. I consider telling a person's story an essential part of motivating people to participate in searches. One thing that differentiated Audrey Seiler coverage and Amos Mortier coverage is the willingness of the family to talk to reporters.

What is so frustrating is the difference in coverage between Amos' disappearance and Audrey Seiler's "disappearance." Why is Amos' case not national news? I will do what I can to spread the word far and wide: Find Amos!

"Reserved, introspective, compassionate, kind, generous, thoughtful, gentle, smart", these are the first words that come to mind when thinking of Amos. "The best person you could ever wish to have as a friend", as I keep quoting to everyone I speak to. I miss him dearly. A huge void has been left in my life, but at the same time he will never leave me, for I keep him here in my heart. Amos taught me so much, about so many things( personal, spiritual, or mundane), if there was ever anyone in my life whom I can say was touched by the divine, it was he. Again, I miss you, Amos.

Margie, If there's anything ever you need, don't hesitate to call.
